The Emperor Penguin

Students started their Arctic Animals unit in Science this week. They will be looking closely at the habitats, diets, and evolutionary adaptations of four different animals this unit.

The students will be starting with the Emperor Penguin – native to Antarctica. To introduce some of the key characteristics of the penguin, I showed the students a quick video documentary on YouTube.

The students were full of questions – most notably asking: “Why are they [the adult penguins] stepping on the babies?” and “What are they saying?”

While I could answer some questions, I was unable to translate Penguinese for the students – a language I clearly need to study. 😉

Feel free to watch the video at home with your child and make some observations of your own.
