Books are Brain Food!

Just a quick update about the homework for the upcoming few weeks. The students will be focusing on reading comprehension, with an increased understanding for cause and effect, context clues, character and conflict. To reinforce these ideas at home and to provide some additional practice for those who need it, I will be sending some reading comprehension worksheets as homework over the next few weeks.

The students will be given simple passages that focus on their short vowel sounds. Please encourage your child to read these passages aloud to you and to try their best to answer comprehension questions on their own. Students can of course be guided and aided, but it’s always more helpful if they complete their own work. After all, we often learn more from our mistakes!

Most of the reading worksheets that I will be using are from K12 Reader, which is a free resource that you may use at home as well.

Thanks for your continued support,

Ms. Heer
