Gung Hay Fat Choy!

Or Happy Chinese New Year!

The students have started the new year by learning about their communities and different members of their communities. A very important celebration in this term is the Chinese New Year festival – on February 8th this year.

The students have been working on various activities, including learning about the animals of the Chinese Zodiac (not surprisingly, both the Rat and the Dragon have become popular choices for favourite animal), learning about the various legends behind the new year, and the various celebrations that take place.

The students explored the similarities and differences between their own New Years’ celebrations on January 1st and the Chinese New Year celebrations that are expected to take place on February 8th.

I would encourage all the students to join their community and celebrate the Chinese New Year in Chinatown on February 8th!
